Parents form a vital part of the school. Woodward has a very active Parents Association (PA). The PA is a liaison for the school community and is made up of a PA Chairperson, Social Chairperson, Fundraising Chairperson, as well as class parents. The PA sponsors special childrens' events during the school year. Past events have included a musical storyteller and a Sea World presentation, the spring raffle and the end-of-year all school gathering. PA Chairpersons are members of Woodward's Board of Trustees during their term of service to the school.
At Woodward, every child's birthday is celebrated in their respective classroom. The birthday child's parents (and siblings / grandparents) participate in this occasion and traditionally provide cupcakes followed by a personal favorite storybook that is then donated to the classroom. Woodward also welcomes parents to visit their child's classroom to talk about their professions or engage the children in a short activity pertaining to their culture. These lessons are often in the form of a cooking or art project, reading a story, or singing songs.
Parents are invited to attend Curriculum Night, Parent / Teacher Conferences, Holiday and End-of-Year parties, as well as seasonal All-School Sings. Parents are encouraged to visit their child's classroom to share a favorite childhood story or special song, a simple recipe or activity, or talk about how they spend their day.
Current and past Woodward parents also continue a long tradition of participation in fundraising to help meet the annual budget with the continued support of the endowment from the Woodward Charitable Foundation.
Woodward is a gem! The dedication of all the staff is unmatched and the Woodward community is so unique and warm. My daughter attended the 2s and 3s program and LOVED every minute. She has learned to LOVE school and learning and that is a testament to Woodward. We would recommend this school to everyone and children are lucky to go here to develop a true love of school.
