The Woodward program serves children ages 2 years through 5.

The school year begins in September and finishes at the end of May, generally following the same calendar as New York City Private Schools. Please visit the calendar tab for dates.

Each class and classroom is designed to be age appropriate and to grow with the child following a daily balanced routine of structured activities and free play. Snack, outdoor time and daily student "jobs" are blended into the day's schedule. Students also engage in special activities throughout every week, including music, cooking, and creative movement. The Twos class engages in very basic French. The Threes class studies science subjects and practices yoga. The Fours/Fives class also engage in basic French as well as deeper math and science studies.

Every activity is designed to give Woodward children the opportunity to develop skills in social behavior, language, mathematical concepts, early science, and creative arts including music and cooking.

Every Woodward child works individually with the classroom head teacher. This gives the teacher an opportunity to customize learning and allows each child to reach curriculum goals and age appropriate milestones.

Please visit Curriculum tabs for more information.

My daughter joined Woodward in the middle of the school year after she turned two. We had been speaking our native language at home so we were nervous about her ability to adjust to the new school setting and to speaking English. The school did a great job with designing a transition schedule for her and she had no trouble adjusting to her new environment. Before she even started her first day, kids in her class knew she would be joining, which made it easy and welcoming. The teachers are nurturing and fun, and discipline when needed. I love that the kids are exposed to various themes in the curriculum and there is a lot of room for creativity and individuality. My daughter has loved going to school everyday for the past 1.5 years.

Another aspect of Woodward that I enjoy is the diversity of the class. Many other children speak another native language at home and come from various religious backgrounds.
